Into the Wild

Given her father's impeccable outdoor credentials (a few failed Duke of Edinburgh treks book-ended by trips to the pub, which was apparently against the ethos of the scheme, a trek through the Andes with a chef in tow) it was not surprising that Nancy is outdoor type of beast. Nor is it surprising that in North London their provision for letting your child wander freely in the untamed wilderness that is Highgate Wood. And so she does wander untamed, thanks to Dansk-Nordic chic forest schools, were Nancy will benefit from fresh air, be taught how to skin, disembowel and prepare squirrels for consumption as well as how to make a shelter for the night (which will immediately be valued by local estate agents as being worth at least £999,995) and socialise with the great and the good of the North London baby world (Petronella, Hector and Whimsy). Even better than this grim up north london parody, is the amazing outfit she gets to wear - full on rubber waders (she looks like a politician inspecting the floods, accept with more charm and nowhere near as gormless) and bright orange rain coat. She is the Ray Mears - except I reckon Ray would have no idea about how to create mud hedgehogs.

Nancy is also demonstrating a key eye for song - her latest ditty goes like this "how many squirrels in the summer, HOW MANY SQUIRRELS in the SUMMER? HOW MANY SQUIRRELS IN THE SUMMER?" repeated at increasing volume until she moves onto the next animal or vegetable and or season (How many carrots in the Spring? HOW MANY CARROTS IN THE SPRING?) She has also planned her birthday party - she wants to go to an Indian restaurant for curry and then have a Bird themed party. So that is that settled then.

So in short she continues to be absolutely bloody ace. And an excellent egg hunter - a skill which was rapidly honed over the Easter period where an industrial quantity of chocolate was consumed much to her delight.

Enjoy
