School Days

Nancy is a keen author.. Very keen indeed. Not a day goes by without her drawing a poem, which have a pared back modernist feel (take for example the following ‘cat/bat/fat/sat/rat/mat’), or she carries out some home learning with a fanatical zeal. In fact she had fed back to get school that as a valued customer she would like more homework. Indeed, you can make her comply with your will by threatening to not let her go to school. Although I'm guessing that that threat won't last long.

Frankly school trumps familial concerns, with the weekend received with a certain resigned dullness compared to the joy of a school day. Having had our first parent's evening, she seems to be doing rather well -she has established a book club and is lobbying for Aramaic to be included on the curriculum. Lovely. The global race is being won folks. The future of old Albion appears to be in safe hands.

Underpinning this is a deep love for Roald Dahl which has crystallised into a solid reading programme that her parents must comply with, indeed such is her passion for the Norwegian that we drove to Leicester to see his books being read. And to be fair it was pretty awesome.

Beyond all this, she seems to be a rather happy child, the odd IS-style tantrum aside, and is has a most devoted follower in Esther, who is the most forgiving audience possible. Nancy merely has to utter some utter nonsense for Esther to cackle like a loon. It's odd to realise that you are perhaps not the centre of your newly born's world but your other one is. But ultimately, they both know that I'm the embodiment pure authority so I'm relatively relaxed.

And finally, farmers have a lot to answer for. The clocks going back used to a yearly delight but with too chides to contend with it is a complete bollock. Enjoy...
